Spain - Live At The Love Song (Glitterhouse, June 29, 2017)

A very particular live release by Josh Haden' Span group.

The Los Angeles ensemble composed by Josh himself with Kenny Lyon, Danny Frankel and Shon Sullivan played every tuesday night between May 2016 and March 2017 (except when they were touring Europe) in a little dowtown L.A. club called 'The Love Song Bar' and a part of the historic Regent Theater.

A lot of artists took part to the several sessions and they're actually guest on this release 'Live At The Love Song' out via Glitterhouse on June 29, 2017. We have Jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, Sun Ra drummer Craig Haynes, violinist and singer Petra Haden (Josh’s sister), Best Coast guitarist Bobb Bruno, Circle Jerks alumni multi-instrumentalist Zander Schloss, former Macy Gray saxophonist Matt DeMerritt, violinist extraordinaire Lili Haydn, and many more.

The recording producer is Nate Pottker and the sound engineer is Ryan Qualls. All of the songs are out from the several releases of the group, but there's also un 'Untitled No. 1' that was actually an unreleased one.

The contents of the songs are various standing at the different nature and characterisation of the guests. But generally speaking we could define this like an album of jazz americana improvisation. Elements of country western music, sixties vintage psychedelia and no-wave, soul music are there and there coming out from the several recordings.

Comparable to some improvised sessions typical of groups like Jackie-O-Motherfucker, the release it's good to be listened when you're possibly alone at night and you want to relax yourselves with these jazz blue note recordings: their efforts are granted. And the same it's for the uncomparable style of Josh Haden and his ensemble who are on the other hand writing an important and relevant page into the story of the Americana music from more than twenty years to now.
